The Spring Coefficient (K) that can be applied to Spring in RecurDyn must be defined in the form of constant value, Parametric Value (PV) or Spline (SP).

In the modeling with Spring Coefficient variable according to the specific displacement condition,

  • When PV is applied - Even though it is configured to change values according to the condition by using the Expression function, if PV is applied finally, it will be fixed to the initial value without changing during analysis.
  • When Spline is applied - It can be used as a variable Spring Coefficient by adjusting the inclination (In this case, Spring Coefficient is used).

 


Please follow the procedure below in order to use Spline as Spring Coefficient.

  1. Click ‘Spine’ in RecurDyn (SubEntity tab > Expression group > Spline).
  2. Click ‘Create’
  3. Enter the Point data of Spline using Add Row and Insert Row (or import existing data using [* .mat], [* .3dm], and [* .txt] files).


To apply the variable Spring Coefficient according to the displacement, use the appropriate control points.

  • The Spline generated from SubEntity uses Akima interpolation method. If you want to make a 'straight line' at some section, you need to use at least 4 points on the straight line.
  • Since this is 'Spline curve', the slope changes continuously. Therefore, to minimize the variability at the point where the slope changes, you need to use as many points as possible.

After creating the Spline, you can change the Spring Coefficient to Spring Spline and select the Spline you created in the Spring Properties dialog box.
