For several reasons, a Bushing force is often used instead of a joint.

For example,

  1. Getting the distributed reaction force in several joints
  2. Joint modeling which is not completed fixed

For this kind of reason, a fixed joint or a revolute joint is often modeled using a bushing force.

For instance, if a bushing force is used instead of a revolute joint, set the translational stiffness (x, y, z) and the rotational stiffness (x, y) to very big value (such as 5000000) and set the rotational stiffness (z) to 0 (zero). Then the bushing force will behave like a revolute joint.

But, as the manual says, in case of 'rotation', only the rotation about z-axis is allowed.

Bushing_Limitation

In RecurDyn V8R5 and previous versions, about X and Y axis, relatively small rotation is allowed. (less than 90 degrees), or the simulation result is unstable.

(No limitation about Z axis)

In RecurDyn V9R1, this limitation was overcome by a new option.

[Home]-[Simulation] >  [Advanced Option] button >[Advanced Angle Measure for 3D Rotation] option.

If this option is checked, the rotation about X and Y axis is calculated stably too.

Advanced Angle Option

In case of the models created in RecurDyn V9R1, this option is the default.

In case of the models created in RecurDyn V8R5 of the previous versions, this option needs to be checked manually.
